'New Lines in Space'

In 2015, I was invited to undertake a commission of twelve paintings for the central atrium of No.1 Spinningfields, a new landmark development in the Spinningfields district of Manchester designed by the award-winning international firm of architects, Simpson Haugh & Partners.

it’s often the case for a painter to represent a landscape that hasn’t changed for decades, often longer….. in this instance, the constant change and very deliberate method of construction offered an opportunity to bookend that process in one distinct body of work. For a landscape painter, I think that’s a huge privilege.

In parallel and around the project paintings themselves, a large body of work emerged that recorded how my practice evolved in response to the commission and how the building grew within its space in the city centre. The work was shown at a solo exhibition, ‘New Lines in Space’ at Contemporary Six in Manchester between 1st and 21st June 2017. …. Click here to see the video
